“A wonderful campground for a quiet weekend getaway! The camp host was friendly and helpful, and the portable toilets were exceptionally clean. There was plenty of wildlife in and around the campground — we saw Great Horned Owls, Ospreys, and Deer. A peaceful and enjoyable stay!”

Fremont Campground sits in the Lower Santa Ynez Recreation Area of Los Padres National Forest, about 18 miles inland from Santa Barbara at roughly 1,000 feet elevation. The site is shaded by a mostly oak forest on rolling terrain, so campsites feel tucked into leafy, hilly ground rather than an open field. There are 14 total campsites: seven that accommodate both RVs and tents and seven tent-only sites. Each site includes a picnic table, a campfire ring with grill and a separate pedestal grill; accessible flush toilets and drinking water are available in the campground, and larger accessible sites are provided. Firewood can be bought from the on-site host. Some sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so check current availability and reservation rules before your trip. Recreation at Fremont is largely about trails and nearby water access. The campground provides straightforward access to local hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails the Aliso National Recreation Trail (a popular 2.5-mile loop) is close by, and the 18-mile Santa Cruz Trail connects to many other routes. Off-highway vehicle riders can reach the Camuesa OHV Route and its connectors within about 10 miles. For water activities, the Santa Ynez River (reachable at nearby White Rock Day Use Area) sees a range of river recreation, and Cachuma Lake Recreation Area a no-body-contact reservoir is nearby for boating, kayaking and fishing. Practical reservation and fee details: all single campsite reservations cover up to 6 people and 1 vehicle; the maximum number of people per single site is 8 (a $10.00 additional charge per person per night after 6 people applies), and the maximum number of vehicles per single site is 2 (a $10.00 additional charge for a 2nd vehicle per night). Extra person and vehicle fees are collected at the facility.
