About

Ten-X Campground sits at about 6,600 feet amid Ponderosa pine and Gambel oak on the Colorado Plateau, roughly 2 miles south of Tusayan and about four miles below the South Rim entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. The campground totals 160 sites: 134 sites set up for both RVs and tents and 26 tent-only sites, distributed across six loops Black Bear (38), Elk (26), Pronghorn (29), Raven (42), Squirrel (23) and a small TEN X loop (2). Most sites come with a picnic table, camp grill and a fire ring, and vehicle parking, with pit toilets nearby; there is no potable water available for filling RV tanks, so plan to arrive with adequate water. Thirty sites are first-come, first-served while the remainder can be reserved in advance; single sites are intended for one vehicle, double sites for two, and group sites allow more (see below), with any extra vehicle subject to a $5/night fee. Important operational note: commercial tour groups are not permitted at Ten-X because Kaibab National Forest is not issuing special use permits for this campground at this time operators or organized groups found in violation will be removed and fined. The campground's character is low-key and forested, with a 3-mile loop trail plus shorter walks that thread through the pines for wildlife viewing and spring/monsoon wildflower displays; the broader Kaibab National Forest offers biking, fishing, hunting, winter sports, horseback riding and interpretive opportunities. For services and additional activities you're only minutes from Tusayan gas, groceries, restaurants, lodging, mountain biking trails and outfitters offering horseback and helicopter tours and the South Rim's overlooks and trailheads are a short drive away (Grand Canyon park entrance fee is $35, valid seven days). Ten-X can serve families and individuals as well as organized groups: there are two reservable group sites (Group A accommodates up to 75 people, Group B up to 50; both sites can be reserved together for larger gatherings), group sites include picnic shelters, tables and tent pads, and they typically accommodate up to 15 vehicles (more may fit depending on the site). Expect summer days from roughly the 80s to low 90s with cool nights (around 50°F), quick monsoon storms in July August, and regular snow from December through March bring water, layered clothing and a plan for limited on-site services.
