“Great campground. Not a whole lot of privacy, but pretty well spread out. Close to the shuttle stop. Short walk to the restrooms which were clean and well-maintained. Shower facilities were also great.”
“Very nice place, quiet, dark ( good for watching the stars), simple Restrooms Witz cold water. One restroom near the entrance Witz warm showers. Very friendly staff👍”

Mather Campground sits inside Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim at roughly 7,000 feet elevation, about a mile from the canyon's edge, and offers an easy base for rim-focused hiking and sightseeing. A paved Greenway runs from the campground toward scenic overlooks and the Visitor Center, and the long, mostly paved Rim Trail is only about a mile away; both are dog-friendly on leash but pets aren't allowed below the rim. Shuttle buses in the village put Bright Angel and South Kaibab trailheads within a short ride, and park concessionaires run mule trips and other guided opportunities for visitors who prefer not to descend on foot. The trees over the campground ponderosa pine, pinyon, and juniper shade campsites and frame sunrise and sunset views when canyon walls shift through bands of yellow, orange, red and violet; wildlife encounters on the South Rim commonly include elk, mule deer, coyotes and a variety of birds, and the endangered California condor is sometimes seen soaring above the canyon. Visitor services the park Visitor Center, Yavapai Geology Museum, shops and restaurants are all within a shuttle ride, and for broader views you can make the drive out to Desert View and the historic Desert View Watchtower or stop at the Tusayan Ruin and Museum. The campground is large and varied: there are 318 total campsites configured to meet different needs 67 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, 85 RV-only sites, 164 tent-only sites and 2 equestrian sites with 12 ADA-designated sites. Sites are grouped into named loops (Aspen Loop, sites 1 59, has 52 sites; Fir Loop, sites 60 106, has 46; Juniper Loop, sites 107 184, has 73; Maple Loop, sites 185 200, has 16; Oak Loop, sites 201 264, has 61; Pine Loop, sites 265 319, has 49; and Sage Loop, sites 1 7, has 9). Most sites provide a campfire ring with cooking grate, a picnic table, a parking space and room for up to three tents; flush toilets and drinking-water spigots are distributed throughout. There are no electrical or sewer hookups in Mather itself, but a free dump station is available at Camper Services and Trailer Village adjacent to the campground offers hookup spaces and larger, largely pull-through RV sites. Note that generators are not permitted in the Pine Loop (sites 265 319), and a limited number of $6 sites are reserved for campers who arrive on foot or by bicycle check the park's current reservation and fee information for details and seasonal policies (the South Rim is open; the North Rim closes for winter).
