“Great place to camp with your family and a group of friends. The trail behind the campground is excellent. The restrooms were very clean and in excellent conditions. There wasn't any potable water like there normally is but managed without it. ”
“The sight was great but there is not a camp host at the moment and several people tried to camp there. We had to have the Forest Service and Sheriff come out to remove one of them. Other than that is was quiet and clean.”

Open in Google Maps ↗
Lewis Canyon is a single large-group campground set among ponderosa pines on the high slopes of the White Mountains, sitting around 6,600 feet in elevation. Rather than individual numbered sites, the facility is one cleared looped area that can handle both RVs and tents and is intended for a single party capacity is up to 150 guests making it well suited to family reunions, scout groups, or other large gatherings. The immediate recreation options at the site include a horseshoe pit, a small baseball field and a picnic area, and the loop spacing gives groups room to spread out while remaining private. Wildlife sightings are common here; callers of wild turkey and the tracks of mule deer and elk are regular reminders that you're in active forest country. Summer days are generally comfortable because of the elevation, but plan for afternoon thunderstorms during the monsoon season (late June through August) and cool nights, and bring rain gear and warm layers. Beyond the clearing, Lewis Canyon provides direct access to the White Mountain Trail System for hiking and mountain biking, and a network of nearby Forest Service roads opens up a variety of terrain for OHV riders; the surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest also supports horseback riding and horse camping, wildlife viewing and other backcountry pursuits across its roughly two million acres. Facilities at the group site are basic: vault toilets and a picnic area are provided, but there are no individual campsite hookups this is a single group space that accepts both recreational vehicles and tents. The campground is reached from the Pinedale area off State Highway 260, about 14 miles northwest of Show Low, with the site turnoff on Forest Road 130; because policies, fees and seasonal availability can change, check with the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest office before you go for current reservation requirements, fees and road conditions.
