“We love to stay at this campsite! It is beautiful and peaceful. We also loved the camp host. She is awesome, sad to see her leave, it is her last year there. Good luck to her!! Thank you!! ”

Perched just over 7,700 feet on a ridge that divides two canyons, Gentry Group Campground offers a single group site with direct views across forested hillsides to Black Canyon Lake and the canyons beyond. The site is the only campsite here (total campsites: 1) and is listed as both an RV and tent site, but the campground's sandy, relatively flat surfaces and limited turning room make it best suited to tents or small campers rather than large rigs. Tall ponderosa pines, with pockets of fir and oak, shelter the clearing where the Gentry Lookout Tower shares the site, and access is along sand-and-gravel forest roads adjacent to Forest Road 300. Amenities are basic but functional: one picnic table and a campfire grill at the site and a vault toilet nearby. There is no dumpster in the campground plan to Pack It In, Pack It Out although a campground host and trash dumpster are available at the nearby Black Canyon Rim campground. For facility-specific questions, call (928) 535-0181. Outdoor opportunities concentrate on low-impact, walkable activities: short hikes, photography, and wildlife viewing are what most visitors do from the campground, and it's common to spot a herd of wild horses in the area. The broader Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest also supports biking, horseback riding and horse camping, OHV routes, additional camping options including fire lookouts/cabins overnight, picnicking, and recreational vehicle travel, so consider Gentry as a quiet base for exploring those resources. Services are limited at the site itself gas, phone and groceries are available along Highway 260 about 10 miles west at Forest Lakes or roughly 13 miles east at Heber so bring adequate supplies and be prepared for unpaved road conditions. Because fee, reservation and seasonal details can change, check with the forest office (above number) before you go.
