Bluff Creek Campground sits on the Georgia Alabama line along Walter F. George Lake, a long, meandering impoundment of the Chattahoochee River that stretches about 85 miles and offers some 640 miles of shoreline. The campground is set into mixed hardwood forest, so sites are shaded and the immediate landscape feels wooded rather than open prairie; wildlife sightings are common waterfowl, deer, squirrels, rabbits, raptors (including eagles and hawks) and even the occasional bobcat and many songbird species. The lakeshore is the draw here: boating, swimming, fishing and general water sports are popular, with a nearby boat ramp providing easy access to the water. For history and culture off the water, the antebellum architecture and multiple National Register districts in Eufaula, Alabama and the historic core of Cuthbert, Georgia are only a short drive away, and a virtual tour of Walter F. George's facilities is available online for route planning and a preview of the area. On-site Bluff Creek facilities support both short stays and extended trips: there are 87 campsites in total 84 sites set up to accommodate both RVs and tents plus 3 RV-only sites and many sites include electric and water hookups. The campground also provides flush toilets and showers, potable drinking water, laundry facilities, a dump station and a fish-cleaning station; a group picnic shelter is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The lake and surrounding Corps of Engineers day-use parks support a wide range of activities beyond camping and boating angling for largemouth and white bass, hybrids, crappie, channel catfish and bream; hiking and wildlife viewing; horseback riding and auto touring of the shoreline areas and nearby towns. Fees, reservation rules and seasonal schedules can change, so check the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or the official reservation site before you go to confirm current rates, permit requirements and availability.
