Hardridge Creek Campground sits along the Georgia Alabama line on Walter F. George Lake (often called Lake Eufaula), a long, wooded impoundment of the Chattahoochee River that runs about 85 miles and offers roughly 640 miles of shoreline. The campground is part of a larger Corps of Engineers recreation area that includes 13 day-use parks and three other campgrounds, so you'll find plenty of room for boating, fishing, swimming and picnicking on the water. The surrounding landscape is mixed hardwood forest where deer, waterfowl, eagles and a variety of songbirds are commonly seen; anglers can expect largemouth and white bass, hybrids, crappie, channel catfish and bream, with bank-fishing spots and a nearby boat ramp for getting out onto the lake. If you want to explore off the water, historic towns like Eufaula, Alabama and Cuthbert, Georgia with numerous antebellum homes and listed historic districts are a short drive away to the south and east of the lake. The campground offers 74 sites in total, and all 74 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents; 55 sites provide electric and water hookups. In addition to standard campsites there are larger "buddy" sites that can hold groups of up to 16 people each (two of these, sites 67 and 68, carry a nightly rate of $48). Practical, visitor-oriented amenities include flush toilets and showers, drinking water, laundry facilities and a dump station, and a boat ramp near the campground makes launching straightforward. Because the area is managed by the Corps of Engineers and the lake supports a wide range of recreation from hiking and hunting on the wooded margins to swimming, water sports and wildlife viewing it's a good idea to check current fees, reservations and seasonal access through the Corps' recreation website before you go.
