Open in Google Maps ↗
Pickensville Campground sits on the wooded shore of Aliceville Lake along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, just west of the small town of Pickensville and a short drive out on Highway 86. The setting is a mix of shaded campsites and broad lake views where you can watch commercial barges move through the waterway or launch a boat for bass, walleye, crappie, catfish and sunfish. Families have options for a swim beach and a playground, a multi-use court and an amphitheater that hosts talks about the area's natural and cultural history; miles of shoreline and adjacent public lands also support upland game and waterfowl hunting, and trails and quiet roads welcome hikers, bikers and wildlife watchers. Anglers will appreciate an accessible fishing dock and a separate day-use area across the water that includes a boat ramp and a fish-cleaning station, and the campground's position on the Tenn-Tom puts you on a 234-mile engineered channel that connects inland rivers to the Gulf. The campground itself offers 174 sites that are set up to serve both RV and tent campers, each with a picnic table, a campfire ring with grill and electric and water hookups; some sites also include sewer hookups, and accessible sites and restrooms are provided. Day-use picnic shelters and additional beach access are available nearby, and the Tom Bevill Visitor Center and the U.S. Snagboat Montgomery an on-site National Historic Landmark are within easy reach for a dose of local history. Practical details such as fees, reservation windows and seasonal availability are managed by the park office and visitor center, so plan to check the official park website or call ahead for current policies and to reserve a site. The campground's combination of shoreline facilities, boat access and shaded, hookup-ready campsites makes it a practical choice for anglers, boaters and families looking to spend time on the water without giving up basic comforts.
