“Would highly recommend this site for group camping, more spacious than anticipated. ”
“Nice group campground. No water at campground, but available down the road and Elks Fork and Wapiti campgrounds. Vault toilet was very clean.”
“Nice site next to the river. This campground has very little tree cover. The host was never on site in the two days I was there, and the nearest firewood was a 20 mile drive.”

Clearwater Campground sits on the south side of the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway where the North Fork of the Shoshone River bends through stands of Douglas fir and large juniper at about 6,000 feet. Campsites sit close enough to the river to make early-morning fly-fishing for rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout an easy walk, and the surrounding ridgelines and open meadows attract frequent wildlife sightings visitors report grizzly bears, deer, elk, bison, moose, fox, coyotes and bald eagles. The campground is about 32 miles west of Cody and roughly 20 25 miles east of Yellowstone's east entrance by the scenic byway, putting the historic Pahaska Tepee (Buffalo Bill's 1904 hunting lodge and summer tours), guided horseback rides and the amenities of Cody within easy day-trip range. Facilities are straightforward and geared to self-reliant camping: Clearwater has 12 sites in total eleven single-family tent sites and one larger site that accommodates both RVs and tents (this larger site also serves as the group area). Each single-family site includes a picnic table, campfire ring and a food-storage locker; the group area offers private parking, three large picnic tables, two food lockers and a campfire circle. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided, but there is no drinking water on site, so bring your own supply; campers may gather firewood from the area. The eleven single-family sites are managed on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservation information is provided for the group site), and because the area is active bear country you should use the provided food-storage lockers and follow standard food-safety practices. Beyond the campground itself, Shoshone National Forest and the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway offer hiking, scenic driving, horseback riding, biking, boating, climbing, OHV routes, picnicking and winter-sport opportunities depending on season.
