CHEQUAMEGON-NICOLET NATIONAL FOREST
Open in Google Maps ↗
Set along the shore of Twin Lake on a 19-acre parcel of Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Twin Lakes Campground sits among pines, evergreens and hardwoods with direct access to the lake. The site is small and quiet: seven campsites in total, each configured to serve both tent and RV users rather than being tent-only or RV-only, so parties with mixed gear can camp together. Basic facilities on site include a paved boat ramp for launching canoes and small boats, potable drinking water, vault toilets and picnic grills, making the campground well suited to day outings and family get-togethers as well as overnight stays. Access is via the forest road network off State Highway 182 east of Park Falls (roughly a 20-mile drive from town), so plan for forest-road conditions and check the Forest Service pages for any seasonal or road advisories before you go. Recreation here centers on the lake and the broader forested landscape: anglers will find trout and panfish in Twin Lake and across the forest's roughly 600 lakes and 1,200 miles of streams, while paddlers can put in from the campground ramp. Birding, nature study and leaf-peeping are common in spring through fall, and the campground sits next to the Round Lake non-motorized area for hiking and bike outings. If you want more remote trails or motorized routes, the Chequamegon-Nicolet offers about 800 miles of hiking trails and roughly 300 miles of designated motorized trails, plus five Wilderness areas and extensive hunting opportunities. Fees, reservations, seasonal availability and permit rules can change, so consult the Forest Service recreation pages before you travel to confirm current policies and conditions.
