“The camp sight itself was nicer than most with the tent pad tucked down a hill. We had a poor experience with the camp host which reflects the experience score given. ”

Sunset Falls Campground sits along the East Fork Lewis River at about 1,000 feet elevation, with a small waterfall and river views actually inside the campground. The road into the loop and the short trail down to the falls are paved, and the sites are shaded by large evergreen trees that keep mornings cool and dappled. The campground is open year-round, is staffed (call local staff at (360) 686-3008), and is located near Yacolt, WA roughly an hour north of Portland and positioned between Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams. There are 18 total sites: 10 that accept both RVs and tents and 8 tent-only sites. RVs are limited to about 22 feet and no electrical or water hookups are provided. Standard amenities include picnic tables, campfire rings with grills at each site, three vault toilets, and trash receptacles; an extra vehicle fee of $8 applies if you bring more than one vehicle. The immediate area offers easy access to hiking and river recreation: the Silver Star Trail is nearby for longer day hikes and has viewpoints that can look back toward Portland, and the East Fork Lewis River draws kayakers and anglers when flows allow. More broadly, Gifford Pinchot National Forest supports a wide range of activities biking, boating, fishing, horseback riding, OHV use, swimming, wildlife viewing, and more so Sunset Falls makes a practical base for varied outings. Reservations are subject to standard Recreation.gov policies: cancellations made up to two days before a reservation start date incur a $10 cancellation fee; canceling the day before or on the day of arrival incurs a $10 service fee and forfeits the first night's use fee (including tax and add-ons); one-night reservations cancelled forfeit the full amount paid. No-shows are charged a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, taxes and applicable add-ons. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends; card refunds go back to the original account, and cash/check refunds are issued by Treasury check (which can take 6 8 weeks). In the event of an emergency closure, all fees will be refunded.
