Atkisson Group Camp sits on flat, forested ground just west of Mount Adams in the Mount Adams Ranger District of Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The single group site is designed for gatherings rather than individual campsites: one large paved area accommodates both RVs and tents and can hold up to 50 people, with a paved driveway roughly 99 feet long and a covered common picnic building at the center. In summer (the site is open for camping from May through September) the gentle grade and surrounding trees make the area well suited to mountain biking, day hikes and foragers huckleberry and mushroom picking are permitted in the forest. In winter the site converts to Atkisson sno-park: a covered warming shed with a large wood-burning stove serves people out for Nordic skiing and snowmobiling across the snowbound landscape. Practical amenities are straightforward: vault toilets are on site, and the group space includes a fire ring and picnic table, but campers must bring their own drinking water. Reservations are handled through Recreation.gov; this single group facility is subject to standard group-site policies cancellations made fewer than 14 days before arrival will incur a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee, and no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, taxes and applicable add-ons. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends; card refunds go back to the original payment method, while refunds for cash or check may be issued by Treasury check (which can take 6 8 weeks). The location has limited staffing call (509) 427-3677 for general information and the nearby town of Trout Lake provides the closest options for groceries, restaurants and supplies if you need them before heading back into the forest.
