“Awesome 1st time there! Last weekend of camping season. We stayed for 1 night and it rained so out of the 5 campsites reserved, only 2 of us showed. Very quiet and clean! Will definitely be back to visit next year for at least a couple days stay!”
“We stayed on Site 9 (water site). We had a great time camping, hiking and kayaking. The nights were chilly (35 degrees). ”

Grout Pond sits within the Green Mountain National Forest on the Kelley Stand Road corridor and centers on an 84-acre pond that reaches about 28 feet at its deepest. The shoreline campsites are shaded by red maple, yellow birch and red spruce, and the water is typically chilly even on hot summer days refreshing for a quick swim or a paddle in a canoe or kayak. More than ten miles of relatively flat, multiuse trails spread out from the campground and link with a larger network that reaches toward Somerset Reservoir; blazed blue-diamond routes double as cross-country ski trails in winter and can be quite wet and muddy much of the year. For overnight shelter beyond tent camping, the Grout Pond Hut operated in partnership with the Vermont Huts Association is inside the semi-remote campground and is open year-round (reservations and details are handled through the Vermont Huts website). The campground provides a mix of drive-in and hike-in options: there are 16 sites total, with 6 that accommodate both small RVs and tents and 10 tent-only sites. Vault toilets sit near the main parking area and an old cabin, potable water comes from a hand pump at the day-use area by the pond, and all sites are equipped with fire rings while several include picnic tables; hike-in sites have designated tent pads and are accessed on foot from the lot at distances ranging roughly from a quarter to three-quarters of a mile. A 200-foot carry-in boat launch is reached from an unloading pull-out just before the parking area please clean and dry boats between uses to prevent spread of invasive species such as Eurasian watermilfoil. Recreation here is available year-round (with winter sports a real draw when snow is on the ground), and while the Forest Service lists 12 reservable overnight sites, the campground also maintains two drive-in sites on a first-come, first-served basis; for planning, note that nearby features include Appalachian/Long Trail access off Kelley Stand Road and Stratton Mountain Resort a short drive away.
