Turkey Run Ridge Group Campground is a purpose-built spot for organized groups who want to camp together in the woods of Prince William Forest Park: nine wooded group sites in all, six designed for groups of up to 25 people and three that can hold up to 40. The campground is open year-round for groups of seven or more and each site is listed as accommodating both tent and RV camping; sites are equipped with picnic tables, metal fire grills and a lantern post, and nearby restrooms provide sinks and flush toilets (there are no showers). Parking at each site is limited, so carpooling is strongly recommended; park only in designated spaces and follow the park's directions GPS units sometimes route visitors down closed gravel service roads, so use the main park entrance at 18511 Joplin Road (VA-619/Joplin Road) for reliable access. An amphitheater with bench seating and a communal fire pit is available for daytime reservation (it is not available for overnight use), and groups should check with park staff for current reservation procedures, fees and any seasonal notices before arrival. The campground puts you in the middle of roughly 15,000 acres of Piedmont forest and the Quantico Creek watershed, with rolling hills, rocky outcrops, winding creeks and a handful of man-made lakes to explore. Prince William Forest Park offers about 37 miles of foot trails for hikers, 21 miles of paved roads (including the 12-mile Scenic Drive) and a 3-mile family paved bike lane that connects toward Oak Ridge campground; mountain bikers can use about 10 miles of gravel fire roads. Anglers have access to roughly 18 miles of streams and two small lakes where bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass and channel catfish are commonly caught. The park also supports organized orienteering and abundant wildlife more than 100 bird species, dozens of amphibians, reptiles and mammals, and over 700 plant species and sits roughly 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., with the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Quantico's main gate about a mile from the park entrance and historic Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Manassas within easy driving distance. Public transit does not serve the park directly; Amtrak and VRE serve nearby Quantico (about five miles away), and the two closest major airports are roughly 45 90 minutes by car.
