“Very nice campground and swimming area as well as boat ramp. The only improvement I saw was the handrails going to the sites we worn and really loose. ”
“Great place to camp. All sites are a short walk from the beach. Bathrooms were cleaned EVERY day. Lower shower house didn’t have hot water in the ladies but the upper shower house isn’t far away. ”

Philpott Lake sits in the rugged foothills within sight of Virginia's Blue Ridge, its clear water and irregular shoreline backed by mixed oak, maple, hickory, pine and cedar forests. The lake itself is roughly 2,900 acres with about 100 miles of shoreline steep, rocky banks give way to pockets of sandy beach at day-use areas and the broader Philpott Project includes thousands of acres of public land managed for flood control, hydroelectric power and recreation. Wildlife is plentiful: expect to see white-tailed deer, wild turkey, squirrels, raccoons and a variety of songbirds and waterfowl, and anglers will find large- and smallmouth bass, walleye, bluegill, crappie and catfish. Miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails thread the surrounding hills, and Fairystone State Park and the Fairystone Farms Wildlife Management Area lie adjacent for those wanting to extend exploration beyond the lake. Horseshoe Point Campground sits on the lake shore in a rural part of Franklin County near the small community of Henry, about eight miles off Highway 220 along Henry Road (SR-605) before turning onto Horseshoe Point Road to the park entrance. There are 49 total campsites each designated to accommodate both RVs and tents with 15 sites offering electric and water hookups and 34 primitive sites without hookups. On-site facilities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station, plus a beach, boat ramp, dock, picnic shelter and playground for family-friendly days by the water. The site supports boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and other recreation (including environmental education opportunities and a concession area); for current fees, reservation procedures, seasonal openings and any access advisories, contact the Philpott Lake managing office or check the official park information before you go.
