Goose Point Campground sits on the shoreline of Philpott Lake in the rugged foothills that rise toward Virginia's Blue Ridge, where steep, rocky banks fall into more than 2,900 acres of water and roughly 100 miles of shoreline. The site offers 62 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, and many sites provide electric and water hookups; on-site facilities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station. For family activities there's a sandy beach with a boat ramp and dock, a fishing pier, picnic shelter, playground and a small amphitheater for programs. Seasonal services change: during the November March non-peak season water is supplied at a community spigot and the shower house remains heated, but water to individual sites and the dump station is not provided; individual electrical hookups are still available. The campground is part of the Philpott Project managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, so check the Corps' current site-use rules, fees and reservation procedures before you go. The lake and surrounding public lands put a lot of outdoor options right outside your tent flap. Philpott supports boating, swimming and a wide variety of fishing large and smallmouth bass, walleye, bluegill, crappie and catfish are commonly targeted from shore and boat. Miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails thread through mixed hardwood and pine forests (oak, maple, hickory, pine and cedar) and offer frequent wildlife sightings deer, wild turkey, raccoons and a variety of songbirds and waterfowl. Fairystone State Park and the Fairystone Farms Wildlife Management Area (about 5,300 acres) are adjacent, so you can extend a day trip into longer loop hikes or additional hunting and viewing opportunities. The campground lies roughly 15 miles west of Bassett (accessible from Highway 57 off U.S. 220), making it an easy lakeside base for exploring this corner of Franklin, Henry and Patrick counties.
