“Great place. We have stayed there for years hosts are great ”
“the location was very well taken care of and very clean and they had the forward thinking of having additional facilities for the big crowd for the 4th of July. The attendant was a very nice man and very helpful. ”

Promontory Campground sits on the shoreline of Proctor Lake in Texas's Cross Timbers country, where large grassy flats are punctuated by stands of black willow and pockets of buttonbush. The site layout includes 77 campsites in four loops L#1 has 12 sites, L#2 has 6, L#3 has 14, and L#4 has 45 with 56 sites set up for both RVs and tents and 21 sites designated tent-only. Camps range from primitive tent pitches to sites with electrical hookups and a number with screened shelters for shade and insect relief; overall tree cover is limited, so most sites lean toward open lake views rather than dense canopy. Boat ramps and docks at the campground put the water within easy reach for swimming, launching and water sports, and there's picnic and playground space nearby for day-use activities. The lake is the main reason many people come here: anglers target abundant bass, shad and crappie, and Proctor Lake is known statewide for its hybrid striped bass fisheries. Beyond fishing and boating, the broader Proctor Lake wildlife area supports hunting for species such as duck, dove and wild hogs, and the mix of shoreline and grasslands makes the area good for birdwatching and wildlife viewing. High Point Park, just about two miles from Promontory, adds more than ten miles of hiking and equestrian trails if you want to stretch your legs away from the shore, and the town of Comanche is within a short drive for antiques, museums and local events. For practical details like current fees, reservation windows or seasonal access, check the park's official information or call the park office before you go; access from Comanche follows Highway 16 toward Downing and then FM 2318 to the park entrance.
