Indian Boundary Recreation Area sits in the South Zone of the Cherokee National Forest on the Tellico Ranger District and offers a classic small-lake camping experience at about 1,560 feet elevation. The campground contains 86 sites distributed over four loops Loop A has 23 sites, Loop B 25, Loop C 19 and Loop D 19 and every site is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents. Sites have electric hookups and the campground provides water faucets throughout, grills, picnic tables and lantern posts; modern restrooms are on site for convenience. There's also a small campground store that stocks basics like bread, ice, milk and ice cream along with other camping supplies, and a designated picnic pavilion that is accessible for visitors who need it. The recreation area is centered on Indian Boundary Lake, a 96-acre body of water with a 3.2-mile hiking and biking trail that circles the lake and offers frequent wildlife sightings beaver activity in an adjacent pond, several species of ducks and other waterfowl and opportunities for anglers to try for bass, sunfish and catfish from the fishing pier or shore. A sand swim beach, boat ramp, volleyball court and picnic area keep families active, and the campground's proximity to the Cherohala Skyway makes for an easy scenic drive; the campground is about two miles off the Skyway east of Tellico Plains. Popular local side trips include Bald River Falls and the Pheasant Fields Fish Hatchery on Tellico River; check the U.S. Forest Service site or recreation.gov for current fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability before you go.
