Ragland Bottom Campground sits along the shoreline of Center Hill Lake on Tennessee's Highland Rim, about eight miles east of Smithville and roughly a mile from Sligo Bridge. The site feels wooded and slightly hilly, with mixed hardwoods and dogwood blooms in spring and regular sightings of white-tailed deer, wild turkey, squirrels and rabbits. The developed campground contains 54 sites in total 20 that accommodate both RVs and tents, 8 RV-only sites and 26 tent-only sites and is arranged in named loops, including the Lake loop with 30 sites and the Middle loop with 8. Visitors will find basic comforts on site: flush toilets, hot showers, and drinking water; recreational infrastructure includes a boat ramp, a day-use area with a group picnic shelter, a swimming beach, playground, volleyball court and a basketball goal, plus hiking access right from the campground. Center Hill Lake is the main draw for water recreation: boating, waterskiing, canoeing and extensive fishing for bream, walleye, smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish and white bass; below the dam the Caney Fork River supports one of the state's most productive trout fisheries. Around the lake there are about nine miles of marked trails; the Red Post Trail is a steep two-mile loop that climbs above the campground to lake overlooks and views toward Sligo Bridge and Marina. Nearby points of interest include Edgar Evins State Park and the Joe L. Evins Appalachian Center for Crafts on the lake, as well as Burgess Falls State Natural Area and Rock Island State Park within easy driving distance (Burgess Falls is roughly a 25-minute drive and features a large waterfall and a Native Butterfly Garden). Fees, reservation rules and seasonal openings change, so check with the managing agency or the park's website or phone line before you go; the campground's mix of hookup-capable sites and primitive tent areas makes it suitable for both RVers and traditional campers planning a base for fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and lakeside recreation.
