“Campsites were large easy to pull into and clean. I like the fact that there paddocked panels rather than stanchions for the horses to stand. I like really like that the trails are right next to the camp.”

Station Camp Campground, often called Station Camp Horse Camp, sits on the Tennessee side of Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area amid the Cumberland Plateau's rugged mix of forested plateaus, sandstone bluffs and rocky gorges. The campground's 24 sites each accommodate both tents and RVs, and every site includes a horse tie-stall, so it functions as a true horse camp while still welcoming non-equestrian campers. From camp you're a short ride or hike from a network of multi-use trails that thread through the park mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding are common here and the Big South Fork River a few miles away opens up paddling, boating, swimming and fishing. The broader park also offers rock climbing, wildlife viewing, hunting in season and several historic and cultural sites, so Station Camp is a practical base for a wide range of outdoor plans rather than a remote backcountry outpost. Facilities at Station Camp mix woods-camp character with modern conveniences: every campsite has electrical hookups and the campground provides flush toilets and hot showers, which makes longer stays and cold-weather visits more comfortable than a primitive horse camp. The site is unstaffed, so there's no ranger station on location; for general information or questions about fees, reservations, seasonal access or rules for riding and stock use, call the park office at (423) 569-9778 or consult the park's visitor pages before you go. A few miles down the road, the Station Camp River Access is where many riders cross the river to reach trail systems that access point also has a picnic area and vault toilets so plan approaches and river crossings accordingly.
