“Nice and quiet spot, tucked away near Nashville. I just stayed at night for a few nights getting some sleep outdoors instead of a hotel so it was great for that. Restrooms worked but could use some TLC, the typical fair of any other location like this.”

Open in Google Maps ↗
Anderson Road Campground sits along the shoreline of J. Percy Priest Lake about 10 miles east of downtown Nashville (roughly a 15-minute drive), where rolling grasslands and woodlands meet more than 14,000 acres of open water. The Corps of Engineers site offers 36 campsites, each set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, and clustered beneath shady hardwoods that buffer the lakeshore breezes. Practical conveniences are on hand: a shower house, drinking water, a dump station and an on-site boat ramp make it straightforward to launch a day on the water or settle in for multiple nights. Campers in the day-use area accessible to people staying in the campground with hangtags find a swimming beach, picnic tables, grills, a shelter and a playground, though that day-use area can be closed on busy weekends, so plan accordingly. If you need to change plans, note there is a $10.00 transaction fee for cancelled reservations. The setting here is as much upland cedar glade as it is lakefront: the Anderson Road Fitness Trail is a paved loop just over a mile long that runs through the cedar glade beside the water, and the surrounding 19,087 acres of managed grasslands and woodlands support abundant wildlife, including the regionally significant Tennessee coneflower in nearby Cedar Glades Natural Area. The lake itself was formed by the dam completed in 1968 and stretches some 42 miles of shoreline across 14,200 surface acres, providing clear opportunities for boating, canoeing, fishing (largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, Cherokee bass, catfish, bluegill and more), swimming and other water sports. Beyond water activities, the broader J. Percy Priest recreation area supports hiking, horseback riding, biking, wildlife viewing and environmental education so whether you're launching a boat from the campground ramp or taking the paved trail into the glade, you'll find a variety of outdoor options within easy reach of the sites.
