Dale Hollow Damsite sits on the Tennessee side of Dale Hollow Lake, a broad reservoir on the Obey River about three miles east of Celina. The campground is tucked into rolling, forested hills that open to clear blue water across the lake, and it shares the neighborhood with the Dale Hollow National Fish Hatchery the largest federal trout hatchery east of the Mississippi, raising roughly 1.5 million trout a year and open to visitors daily. The lake itself offers big-water recreation: 27,700 surface acres, roughly 620 miles of shoreline, quiet tie-ups for secluded shore-side stops, and well-known fishing for trophy smallmouth bass as well as rainbow and brown trout below the dam. In late fall through early spring you can often see American bald eagles overhead or perched in low limbs; Dale Hollow hosts the second-largest wintering eagle population in Tennessee and Kentucky. For land activity, the campground includes a paved one-mile walking and biking trail that threads forest, streamside and meadow, while longer trail systems including Red Oak Ridge and the Accordion Bluff route that links Lillydale and Willow Grove are within a drive of the area for horseback riders, hikers and birders. The campground offers 77 sites in all: a mix of RV-and-tent sites (66), RV-only sites (10) and a single tent-only site, plus three double-party group camping sites and a large group picnic shelter. Most sites provide 50-amp electric service and water (site 37 is the exception), and accessible sites are available (sites 60 62); paved site pads and detailed site measurements are listed on each site's information page to help you choose a level, appropriately sized spot. Modern conveniences include flush toilets, drinking water, a dump station and a Wi-Fi hub near the registration center, and there is no direct lake access from the campground the nearest public boat launch is the Pleasant Grove Day Use Area about a three-mile drive. Reservations are handled online or by credit card only; there is no fee to make a reservation but standard cancellation and change rules apply (a $10 service fee is withheld from refunds, day-before or day-of cancellations for standard campsites forfeit the first night plus the service fee, and no-shows incur a $20 fee and loss of the first night's fee), and camping is limited to 14 days within any 30-consecutive day period. The campground sits a short drive north of Celina on Highway 53 into the Dale Hollow Dam Recreation Area keep an eye on posted directions rather than relying solely on GPS.
