Poulous Loop Group Campground sits in the Enoree Ranger District of Sumter National Forest in Chester County, in the piedmont of South Carolina at roughly 400 500 feet elevation. The site is a single large group camp one campsite that can accommodate both RVs and tents set in a mature mixed pine hardwood stand with grassy openings on either side of a graveled loop road. Summers here tend to be hot (high 80s to high 90s) and winters mild (low 40s to upper 60s), and the surrounding forest supports abundant wildlife, making the area popular for deer and turkey hunting (regulated by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources), as well as hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and general wildlife viewing. The Woods Ferry Horse Trail, a 26-mile system running along the Broad River corridor, is reachable via Forest Service gravel road 301F and is open to horses, hikers and mountain bikers; other nearby recreational outlets include the Leeds Outdoor Shooting Range and the Olde English tourism area, with Historic Brattonsville about 28 miles away. The campground is deliberately primitive and operates by reservation only through Recreation.gov (you can reserve up to 12 months in advance). Amenities are minimal a vault toilet and a fire pit are provided, but there is no potable water, no electricity, no Wi-Fi and cell service can be spotty so parties should arrive fully self-sufficient. The grassy layout offers plenty of room for RVs, trailers, horse trailers and tents, and there is ample space to highline horses or set up portable stalls and field games; however only one group site exists, and use is governed by group limits: minimum one person and one vehicle, maximum 100 people and 15 vehicles (a vehicle plus one camper or one horse trailer counts as a single vehicle). ATVs, UTVs and golf carts are not permitted. Fees are charged on a two-tiered basis through Recreation.gov $30 per night for groups of 1 29 people and $60 per night for groups of 30 100 and the America the Beautiful pass is not accepted for group campsites. Access to the campground is via local state and forest roads northwest of Lockhart, following SC-49/SC-9 toward Woods Ferry/Worthy's Ferry Road and then on to Feltman Road, where pavement gives way to gravel for the final approach.
