“What a gem! A beautiful campground with full hook ups! Nestled in along the Tionesta Creek, there is a lot to explore. The Mill Trail was an enjoyable hike for my puppy and I. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Looking forward to returning next season!”

Tionesta Recreation Area Campground sits just south of the small town of Tionesta along State Route 36, occupying the forested bench immediately below the Tionesta Dam where the lake widens into a series of quiet coves. The site layout includes 125 campsites each designed to serve both tents and RVs and among those are 48 campsites right on the lakeshore, a real draw for anglers and families who want to fall asleep to water lapping at the shoreline. The campground is threaded with well-wooded loops, has shower houses and restrooms placed for convenient access, and a beach area just outside the campground entrance for swimming and picnicking (no lifeguards on duty). A boat ramp and a small marina nearby give straightforward access for boating, water-skiing and other water sports, and you'll also find a playground and a designated park sport area plus a concession site serving basic needs during peak season. The lake and surrounding public lands set the recreational tone: Tionesta Lake carves through rugged hills framed by Allegheny National Forest, Cooks Forest State Park and several state forests and game lands, so wildlife viewing is strong expect white-tailed deer, wild turkey, porcupine, osprey and the occasional opossum. Fishing here is noted as productive, and the campground supports a range of activities from hiking and picnicking to environmental-education opportunities and in-season hunting on nearby public lands. The area carries a clear cultural imprint the Seneca called this place "where the water separates the land," and relics of the narrow-gauge logging railroads that once hauled timber through the hills are part of the landscape's history. For practical matters like fees, reservation windows and exact seasonal dates, check the campground's official information before you go so you can plan launches, hookups and any permits you might need.
