Outflow Recreation Area sits in Forest County along the wooded banks of Tionesta Creek, just south of the town of Tionesta on PA-36/South Elm Street. The campground contains 29 sites in total: 12 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 17 that are tent-only, each provided with a picnic table and a fire ring. Potable water at sites is available after May 1, and flush toilets and showers in the campground and a nearby dump station also open for the season after May 1, so plan trips before then accordingly. The site map and current rules, fees and reservation windows change from year to year, so call the Tionesta Lake recreation office or check the managing agency's website before you go to confirm nightly charges and whether you need reservations during peak summer weekends. The Outflow area is a good base for anglers and hikers who want to explore Tionesta Lake and the surrounding public lands: the lake and creek support fishing, boating and water sports, and nearby trails and drives including the scenic Tionesta Creek Road give access to the Allegheny National Forest, Cook Forest State Park and adjacent state forests. Wildlife is plentiful; white-tailed deer, wild turkey, porcupine, osprey and opossum are commonly seen from campsites and along nearby trails, and hunting is permitted in season on designated game lands. Facilities for day visitors and families include picnic areas and a playground, and the broader lake area also hosts environmental education and concession services so whether you want a quiet tent site beside the creek or an RV spot to launch a day of fishing, Outflow places you in easy reach of Tionesta's history and outdoor opportunities.
