Central Group Campground sits in the Platt Historic District of Chickasaw National Recreation Area, a short drive south of Sulphur off Highway 177 and NE Perimeter Road. Designed for groups and families who prefer a low-service setting, the campground offers 10 seasonal group sites arranged around a loop that encircles a wide grassy field room enough for volleyball, football, or horseshoes. Practical conveniences are limited but useful: water spigots are located close to the campsites, and one of the group sites is sized to accommodate both RVs and tents while the other nine are intended for tent camping only. Because this is a primitive group area, assume no electrical or sewer hookups and plan accordingly; reservations must be made through recreation.gov and sites are open only seasonally. Water is the neighborhood here: a short walk from the campground takes you to Panther Falls and other spring-fed swimming holes on Travertine Creek, and Little Niagara is another popular freshwater spot nearby. Trails from the area follow streams past waterfalls and springs, offering steady opportunities for swimming, hiking, fishing, paddling and wildlife viewing; the Travertine Nature Center where rangers give talks and exhibits include live animals is a close resource for learning about the park's complex geology and springs. A bison pasture is also within easy reach for family visits and photos.
