Buckhorn Campground sits along the southeast shore of Lake of the Arbuckles, where the rolling hills of the Crosstimbers part prairie, part oak and hickory forest frame stands of native grasses and frequent wildlife sightings. The campground has 42 sites in total: 24 sites set up for both RVs and tents and 18 tent-only sites, making it a good fit whether you arrive with a trailer or a pack and sleeping bag. It's one of only two campgrounds in Chickasaw National Recreation Area that offer electrical hookups and potable water, so families and casual RVers can balance campsite comforts with lakeside recreation. Loops C and D remain open year-round for winter stays; A and B close during the colder months, so check availability for the season you plan to visit. Water is the daily draw here campers commonly launch boats or jet skis from the nearby shoreline to cruise Arbuckle Lake, swim off shallow points in summer, or fish for bass, perch and crappie. Beyond water sports, the campground provides easy access to unpaved multi-use trails for hiking and biking, and birdwatching is rewarding along the shorelines and wooded slopes. The Rock Creek area and the Chickasaw Cultural Center are a short drive away for longer outings and interpretive opportunities about the region's Native American heritage. Sites are reservable through recreation.gov; be sure to read their cancellation rules carefully refunds will not be given for inclement weather, and the park is not responsible for cancellation fees charged by recreation.gov. Buckhorn is reached from the Davis/Sulphur corridor via Highway 7 and Highway 177, and directional signs guide you to the campground on the lake's southeast corner.
