What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (150 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“We were absolutely terrified from a howling coyote in heat that came into our campsite at night. Also, the treacherous stairs and hilly climb to the bathroom make most sites impossible for me. Otherwise it was a lovely experience. ”

About

Hilltop Campground sits high in the Spring Mountains about 40 miles from downtown Las Vegas, where stands of juniper, mountain mahogany and ponderosa pine give way to wide views down across the Mojave Desert and up into the higher ridgelines. The Spring Mountains themselves are fed by more than 100 springs and support unusual species bristlecone pine and the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly occur in the range so you camp among vegetation and wildlife you won't find on the valley floor. The site offers 35 campsites in total: 34 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site. Each campsite includes a picnic table, campfire ring and grill; roads and parking spurs are paved, some sites require climbing a short set of stairs from the parking spur, and vault toilets and trash collection are provided. The campground is a practical base for hiking, horseback riding and scenic drives through the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. The North Loop Mt. Charleston National Recreation Trail begins roughly a quarter-mile from the campground, and Robber's Roost and the CCC Trailhead are also nearby; the Spring Mountains Visitor Center is a short drive away and runs guided hikes and educational programs. Hilltop's access road is narrow with tight turns, so trailers longer than 25 feet are not recommended plan accordingly. Beyond Hilltop, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest offers a wide range of activities including biking, climbing, fishing, horse camping and riding, off-highway vehicle use, hunting, wildlife viewing and winter sports; check with the Spring Mountains Visitor Center or the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest headquarters for current seasonal conditions, reservation policies and any other access details before you go.
