“Great campground, it’s especially nice that you can’t see or hear your neighbors. ”
“Overall our site was very good. There was running water near some of the sites which is nice. The only negative was that there were a lot of tumbleweeds growing in the spots. We cut a bunch of them down with a shovel but the spots needed a little weed maintenance. ”
“If you want a private experience, off the grid, where you can't see or hear your neighbors, this is the place! We can not WAIT to return.”

Perched at about 8,200 feet on the Schell Creek Range within the Duck Creek Basin, Bird Creek Campground sits where a small stream Bird Creek runs year-round through a stand of juniper, pinyon pine and alder. The setting is a high-elevation mountain basin roughly 25 miles from Ely, with limited canopy shade but clear access to alpine scenery and wide views of high desert and mountain terrain along nearby roads. Outdoor options cluster right at the site: the Ranger Trail, a designated OHV route that also welcomes hikers and mountain bikers, departs from the recreation area, and the 30-mile Success Loop Scenic Drive is close by for a low-effort way to see the surrounding landscape. If you want a quick diversion off the trailhead routine, Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park famous for its 19th-century stone ovens and an interpretive trail and the Northern Nevada Railway museum and train rides in Ely are short drives from the campground. The campground is small and straightforward: there are eight sites in total, six that accommodate both RVs and tents and two that are tent-only, and every site is supplied with a picnic/serving table plus a campfire ring and grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are available on a seasonal basis, and the site operates under a strict "pack it in, pack it out" policy, so plan to carry out all trash and be self-sufficient when water is off. Because facility details such as fees, reservation rules and exact seasonal opening dates aren't listed here, check with Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Headquarters before you go; also verify road conditions and seasonal access at this 8,200-foot elevation so you arrive prepared for cooler temperatures and limited services.
