Jacks Creek Group Area
Open in Google Maps ↗
Jack's Creek Group Area sits in the high forest of the Sangre de Cristo range at about 8,000 feet, where stands of fir and aspen provide dappled shade and openings for sun. The campground consists of two group units (total campsites: 2), each designed to accommodate both RVs and tents and capable of holding roughly 40 people a layout that makes it well suited to family reunions, organized recreation events or large backcountry trips. The creek runs right along the campground edge, and the trees open to views toward the Pecos Wilderness to the east; in autumn the aspens turn gold against the darker firs. Roads into the area are paved, so low-clearance vehicles can reach the sites, and a campground host checks the area regularly. Group B is accessible, and once your group is settled you may lock the gate for privacy and security. For outdoor activities, Jack's Creek puts you close to the Jack's Creek Trail for day hikes and to the creek itself for trout fishing (rainbow and brown trout are reported). Beyond the immediate campground the Santa Fe National Forest supports biking, winter sports in season, picnicking, overnight stays in cabins or lookouts, and additional hiking and fishing opportunities across the Pecos Wilderness's 160,000 acres and its network of high lakes and streams. The campground is seasonally open from mid-April through mid-November; because fees, reservation rules and opening dates can change, contact the Santa Fe National Forest or the campground host for current policies and to confirm availability. By road the area lies north of the town of Pecos on State Highway 63, roughly a one-hour drive from Santa Fe, making it convenient for day trips or as a base for longer excursions into the high country.
