“Caretaker was very helpful. We enjoyed the hospitality and stay.”
“Really enjoyed staying at the campground. It's very easy to get in and there are quite a few spots to choose from. Easy first come first serve registration with the app once you've found your spot. ”
“The host was very helpful and friendly. The campground is at a beautiful location, with a number of historic sites in the area. About 7 miles or so, into Capitan and a nice grocery store,, with hot food, and at least a couple other restaurants. ”

Rob Jagger's Campground sits at roughly 6,300 feet on New Mexico State Road 220, a short drive from U.S. 380 between the towns of Capitan and Lincoln (about 5 miles from Capitan, roughly 8 miles from Lincoln). The campground has a total of 28 sites 27 configured for RVs and one designated tent site with electrical and potable water hookups spread across the loop; additional potable water outlets are scattered through the area. Facilities include two large day-use parking areas (where camping is not permitted), two vault toilets, hitching rails and water for stock, and a group shelter that offers both water and electricity; the shelter can be reserved through the camp host at 575-322-0030. Sites are first-come, first-served and camping within the Rob Jagger area is limited to the formal campground; elsewhere on the NCA dispersed camping is allowed for up to 14 days but vehicles must remain within 90 feet of a road. Some campsites include horse corrals that can be rented, and the BLM sometimes issues special recreation permits that temporarily reserve portions of the campground these events are announced by news release when they occur. The setting and recreation options are what really define a stay here: the campground is framed by high-desert cedar and juniper slopes with ponderosa pine and hardwoods threading through the canyon bottoms, and trails that climb toward views of the Sacramento and Capitan Mountains. Rob Jagger is the primary trailhead for the Fort Stanton Snowy River NCA's extensive trail network over 70 miles of routes for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding (marked with flexible fiberglass posts), plus opportunities for wildlife viewing, hunting and photography. Nearby attractions include the Fort Stanton historic complex and the Rio Bonito Petroglyph Trail, and the region's caves are a major scientific draw: Fort Stanton Cave (home to the long Snowy River calcite formation) is gated and normally requires a permit for recreational caving, but currently remains under a moratorium because of White-Nose Syndrome concerns; Snowy River itself and many sensitive cave passages are closed to protect unique formations and endemic life while research continues.
