“1st time staying at this campground. We enjoyed our time there. The site we had was level and large, right next to the lake. The campground was clean, and well kept. We will definately stay at East Totten Trail again and as.often as possible.”
“Stated I could have 2 vehicles but nowhere to park second vehicle at campsite, but could unhook boat in grass by campsite and then park vehicle several campsites away if there was room or at entrance to camp grounds. I would find somewhere else unless last resort.”

East Totten Trail Campground sits on the west shore of Lake Audubon the smaller sister lake to Lake Sakakawea and is the only developed campground on Audubon's shoreline. The site feels open prairie-meets-water: grassy camping areas with scattered trees and a lake view from nearly every site. There are 40 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents; of those, 30 have electric hookups and developed concrete or gravel pads while the remaining 10 are more primitive, each equipped with a fire ring and grill. Practical amenities for overnight visitors include new vault toilets, a fish-cleaning station, a boat ramp with shoreline access, a fill-and-dump station for RVs, and paved roads into the area. Access is off US-83 north of Riverdale (roughly an hour to an hour-and-a-half from Bismarck, a shorter drive from Minot), and reservations and fees are handled through Recreation.gov (or by calling 1-877-444-6777); for facility-specific questions call (701) 654-7411. The campground is a good base for water- and wildlife-focused days: Lake Audubon supports boating, swimming, and angling for species such as walleye, sauger, northern pike, muskie, white bass, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill and crappie, and nearby Lake Sakakawea even holds chinook salmon. Trails and open roads nearby invite hiking, mountain biking and wildlife viewing, and the adjacent Audubon Wildlife Management Area and Audubon National Wildlife Refuge broaden opportunities for birdwatching the broader Sakakawea complex is an important resting stop for whooping cranes and a nesting area for least tern and piping plover. In winter the area remains popular for ice fishing and other cold-season recreation. Nearby interpretive stops include the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center (about 3 miles away) with guided programs and environmental education, the Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery with aquariums and public viewing, and seasonal walking tours of the Garrison Dam power plant; check Recreation.gov for reservation, cancellation, and seasonal availability details.
