Cedar Point Campground and Recreation Area sits where the White Oak River meets Bogue Sound and runs right up against the Swansboro Inlet, so the setting alternates between coastal forest and wide salt marshes where river and tidal waters mix. The marsh is an active working habitat fish, shrimp, crabs and oysters are supported here and wildlife is visible from the campsite and from the Tidelands National Trail, a 1.9-mile route divided into two loops that is good for birdwatching (ospreys are common) and occasional dolphin sightings along the inlet. The campground is part of the Croatan National Forest and is only a short drive from the developed barrier-island beaches of Bogue Banks and about a mile from full-service shopping. On site you'll find a shallow-draft boat launch for small watercraft, a picnic area, and opportunities for canoeing, fishing and power boating on the White Oak River. The campground has 35 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and offer full electrical service (20/30/50 amp); a modern bathhouse with private hot showers, accessible flush toilets, and a dump station with potable water are provided. This facility is popular and reservations are recommended they may be made up to 180 days in advance but must be completed at least three days before arrival to avoid double-booking; reservation fees are non-refundable and there is a $10 cancellation charge (canceling within three days of arrival may also forfeit one or more nights' fees). Campsites must be paid for within 30 minutes of arrival, and if you set up before 5 a.m. you will be charged for the previous night. Standard fees are $27 for a single electric site ($20 basic + $7 electrical) and $54 for a double electric site ($40 basic + $14 electrical); America the Beautiful Senior and Access Pass holders receive half off the basic fee for single sites (no discount on the electrical portion). A small number of sites are maintained as first-come, first-served and Scan & Pay is allowed only for those sites per recreation.gov rules, so always check with the campground host (252-638-5628) for availability before completing payment to avoid losing your fee.
