Deep Creek Campground sits along the edge of Deep Creek in the southeastern section of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, about three miles from downtown Bryson City. The creek runs beside the loop of campsites, making it one of the park's most convenient places for wading, tubing and trout fishing; Bradley Fork and the many cold mountain streams in the area support high-quality backcountry fishing. A short, easy 1.6-mile round-trip hike from the picnic area takes you to two waterfalls Tom Branch Falls and the 25-foot Indian Creek Falls and dozens of maintained trails radiate through the park if you want to extend a day hike. Wildlife is abundant here (the park supports roughly 1,500 black bears), and the campground's setting also places you within reach of the park's large collection of restored log buildings and other historic Southern Appalachian sites, so you can pair creekside recreation with cultural exploration. Facilities are straightforward and geared toward a primitive, outdoors-first experience: the campground offers 90 total campsites 31 RV sites, 25 tent-only sites, five sites that accommodate either RVs or tents, plus 29 sites listed as "YES" in the official site-type data and many sites have tent pads, picnic tables, grills and campfire rings. There are flush toilets, drinking water and sinks on site, but there are no electrical hookups and no showers, and the location is staffed seasonally (call 828-488-3184 for current information). Deep Creek books up quickly during summer because of its stream access, so plan ahead: cancellation rules are strict cancelling the day before or on arrival incurs a $10 service fee and forfeits the first night's fee (one-night reservations are nonrefundable), and you must contact the campground office on the day you leave to request any refund for early departure. Activities popular from the campground include hiking, fishing, picnicking, wildlife viewing and auto touring, with biking, horseback options, and broader cultural sites available elsewhere in the park.
