“Lovely, quiet spot to camp in the Beaverhead. Bathroom very clean and often attended to. Do wish that the campground host had made a visit and introduce themselves. Never did. ”

Cliff Point Campground sits at about 6,313 feet on the shore of Cliff Lake in southwestern Montana, roughly 43 miles south of Ennis and about 35 miles west of Yellowstone's West Entrance. The loop contains seven campsites that accommodate both tents and RVs, each outfitted with a picnic table and a metal fire ring; some sites offer partial shade. A centrally located vault toilet, a seasonal drinking-water spigot (typically available May through September, weather dependent), and a bear-proof food-storage bin serve the loop, but there is no garbage service, so plan to pack out refuse. The campground's compact turning area and a couple of tight curves make it unsuitable for long trailers the maximum recommended trailer length is 16 feet and snow can block access in early and late season. All sites are reservation-only; site number 6 has a two-week advance reservation window while the remaining sites open for reservations six months in advance. Note that reservation fees become non-refundable within 14 days of your arrival, and changes to bookings may incur additional fees through the National Recreation Reservation Service. The lake itself is about 600 acres of clear aquamarine water with a no-wake speed limit, and an undeveloped natural-surface boat launch at the nearby day-use area (across a small cove) makes it a convenient put-in for small boats, canoes, or trailers; larger boats and motors are less common here. Anglers will find rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout, and Wade Lake Resort nearby rents boats; the Madison River, a five-mile drive, is a premier blue-ribbon fly-fishing destination. Trails begin at the upper end of Cliff Lake, including the route toward Hidden Lake, and the Gravelly Range and Lee Metcalf Wilderness offer extensive hiking and off-road trails for ATVs and horseback riding. Wildlife viewing is good moose, deer, eagles, otters, occasional bears, and many waterfowl species are regularly seen so use the bear box and follow food-storage rules. Nearby points of interest within a short drive include Wade Lake and its campgrounds, Hebgen Lake to the east, Henry's Lake to the south, and the Earthquake Lake Visitor Center about ten miles away.
