“We love this campground. The site is always nice and clean and the facilities are plenty adequate for our needs. We’ve been doing our annual group camping trip here for 3 or 4 years now and I plan to again next year. ”
“Had a great weekend, everything was very nice, only negative was the water faucet/fountain being shut off ( I think the fountain could be off or blocked and the faucet be left on) Bath houses were very clean and nice. ”

The John C. Briscoe Group Use Area sits within the recreation lands around Mark Twain Lake, a Salt River reservoir that covers roughly 18,600 acres and is known regionally for good crappie and bass fishing. The group area itself provides six group-capable sites with picnic shelters, on-site showers and a central playground, plus a seventh site that is tent-only, for a total of seven campsites. Most group sites are sized to hold 24 36 people and combine paved parking for RVs with shaded areas for tents and open turf for games and sports; every group site has electrical hookups. The campground is part of the broader Mark Twain Lake complex, located about 30 minutes west-southwest of Hannibal (accessed from Highway 36 to Route J) and near the village of Florida, with Clarence Cannon Dam and its power-plant display and the David C. Berti Shooting Range close by. Outdoors options concentrate on lake- and forest-based recreation: fishing, boating and hunting are popular right from the John C. Briscoe area (bass is the most frequently targeted species), while the wider Mark Twain Lake region also supports hiking, horseback riding, water sports, environmental-education programming, historic and cultural sites and visitor-center resources. Practical planning: group sites are explicitly designed to hold large parties but capacities and any permit, fee or reservation requirements can change, so confirm current rules, seasonal availability and reservation procedures with the park or the official reservation system before you go. Getting there is straightforward from Hannibal (west on Highway 36 then south on Route J) or from Perry (north on Route J), placing the group area within easy reach of the lake's boat ramps, day-use areas and nearby historic attractions.
