“Currently No Potable water, but otherwise great sites, hiking and vault toilets. ”
“Horrid! All 50 water spigot broken for years. Even the outhouses were "out of order". Last maintenance was decades ago. All recreation spots were subcontracted to local Yahoo's to control usage and charge money for parking, usage, water, electric, food etc. MIS MANAGED”
“We enjoyed our time at Council Bluffs. Of note: There is no water at the campsite, but we were able to fill our water jugs at the beach area. Overall a beautiful place to camp with the family. ”

Council Bluff Recreation Area sits on the shore of Council Bluff Lake, a 440-acre reservoir reaching depths up to 87 feet, about 17 miles south of Potosi on a series of county highways. The lake is the focal point here: two boat ramps provide easy water access (all watercraft must travel at no-wake speed), a 54,000-square-foot sandy stretch called Chapel Hill Beach occupies the campground's eastern end and offers accessible flush toilets, coin-operated showers and a small playground, and the 12-mile Council Bluff Trail rings the lake with spurs down to the campsites. Anglers can expect bass, bluegill, catfish and crappie, and the wooded hills around the lake support waterfowl and upland game hunting in season; beyond the recreation area the Trace Creek section of the Ozark Trail is just west, and the broader Mark Twain National Forest offers auto-touring, biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle opportunities for visitors who want to explore further. Camping centers on the Wild Boar campground complex, where a total of 42 campsites are distributed between 32 sites that accept both RVs and tents and 10 tent-only sites; some individual sites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. Sites include picnic tables, lantern posts and campfire rings with grills; large group sites will hold up to 50 people while a nearby paved picnic pavilion with a roof, multiple tables and grills can seat about 75 and carries group site fees of $25 $100. There is no electrical service at the campground, but drinking water and accessible vault toilets are provided, and a handful of sites are managed on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need current information on reservations, seasonal openings or group-site booking, check with the Mark Twain National Forest office before you go so you know which sites require advance registration and which are walk-up.
