Red Bluff Campground sits along Huzzah Creek where steep red bluffs on the far bank and broad gravel bars frame a mix of riffles and slow pools; the creek is the focal point here, and many campsites are within about 100 yards of the water. The site's human history shows in old mill-era clearings from the Boyer Mill and the timber railroad days, but today the landscape is used for swimming, tubing and fishing anglers commonly catch bass, sunfish, catfish and suckers and visitors should be aware that the creek can run swift at times and rocks and drop-offs are not marked. A 1.2-mile Red Bluff Trail loops through pine plantation and mature oaks right inside the campground, offering a short hike through varied ecological communities in roughly a half-hour; beyond the campground, Mark Twain National Forest supports a wide range of activities from hiking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing to biking, boating and off-highway vehicle use. The campground has 62 sites in total: 36 sites are set up for both RVs and tents, 24 are RV-only, and 2 are tent-only. These are grouped into six areas Creek Loop (19 sites), Group Loop (9 sites), Pavilion 1 (1 site), Pavilion 2 (1 site), Pines Overlook (8 sites) and Ridge Top Loop (24 sites) and three newer loops above the floodplain (Ridge Top, Creek and Group) were outfitted in 2023 with modern restrooms, drinking water and electrical hookups. Pines Overlook was renovated as a non-electric loop. Practical amenities include a new shower house, a dump station, a second pavilion, individual picnic sites (some sheltered), an accessible group picnic shelter that can be reserved for up to 75 people, paved roads, vault toilets and site-level tables and campfire rings with grills. Some individual sites are offered first-come, first-served while group facilities can be reserved; fees, seasonal openings and current reservation details are managed by the U.S. Forest Service (check the Mark Twain/Forest Service recreation pages or Recreation.gov before you go). The campground is in the Potosi-Fredericktown Ranger District in southeastern Missouri, about a mile from the small town of Davisville and reachable from I-44 via Highways 19 and 49.
