Pfeiffer Lake Campground sits on the shore of a 57-acre lake within the Superior National Forest, offering a quiet, wooded setting of mixed hardwoods and pines (with newer pine and cedar plantings visible around sites). The lake's irregular shoreline is well suited to exploration by canoe or kayak, and loons and other waterbirds commonly nest along the edge, so bring binoculars for wildlife viewing. Anglers will find panfish, bass, perch and walleye from the fishing dock or by launching from the campground's boat ramp; families can swim from a grassy beach adjacent to the picnic area, and a three-mile hiking trail leaves from the site for a short forest loop. The campground is roughly 30 35 miles from the town of Virginia, Minnesota, reached by traveling north on Highway 53 and then east on County Road 22 to Forest Road 256, placing it in the Arrowhead region where the Superior National Forest's wider network of lakes, trails and scenic byways offers additional recreation year-round. The facility is compact and practical: there are 16 total campsites, and all 16 are designated for both RV and tent use; eight sites are reservable while eight remain available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site includes a table and a fire ring, and the campground provides drinking water, vault toilets and a centrally located playground; a campground host is on site to answer questions. For details on fees, exact seasonal opening dates and any vehicle or equipment restrictions, check the Forest Service information page or contact the ranger district before you go. Beyond what's at Pfeiffer Lake itself, Superior National Forest supports a wide range of activities boating, fishing, hiking, auto touring, winter sports and more so the campground is a convenient base for day trips into the broader forest.
