“Awesome, clean very well taken care of and excellent campsite ”
“One of the nicest campgrounds we stay at. ”
“It was good BUT…I didn’t like the fact that one of the hosts were waiting for me to leave before check out. I was having difficulty hooking up as my receiver and tongue weren’t cooperating. He finally left and went to clean another site.”

Gull Lake Recreation Area sits where the Gull River flows out of Gull Lake, a glacially carved basin that is part of the Mississippi River Headwaters projects managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. That setting makes the area a mix of open water and wooded shoreline, where anglers chase stocked walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass and panfish and paddlers can explore crystal-clear stretches of the Gull Chain of Lakes. Boaters will find a public boat ramp and calm coves for evening runs; paddlers can launch from the campground's canoe launches or put in lower on the river for a downstream float. Short, self-guided interpretive walks and several overlooks along the lake make wildlife watching a regular activity expect to see bald eagles, white-tailed deer, river otters and a variety of songbirds, and to hear loons calling across the water. For longer pedal days, the paved multi-use trail by the dam connects into the City of East Gull Lake network and provides an easy link toward the Paul Bunyan State Trail at Baxter and Nisswa. The campground itself offers 41 sites in total: 40 sites configured for both RV and tent camping and one tent-only site, all set on well-spaced, wooded pitches. Most sites include 50- or 30-amp electrical hookups, a picnic table and a campfire ring; a centrally located showerhouse and a water fill and dump station by the entrance serve the loop. On this side of the park you'll also find two canoe launches, a paved shoreline fishing platform, a fish-cleaning station, a self-guided information booth, a playground and a flush-toilet restroom with a handful of picnic tables and grills; across the dam are the main boat ramp, a vault toilet, a swimming beach and additional play and sport features (volleyball nets, basketball hoop and horseshoe pits). The park supports environmental-education opportunities and has visitor resources park rangers can brief you on current river flows and safety and will loan life jackets for river trips. The recreation area is located just north of Baxter off County Road 125 (Gull Lake Dam Road); for up-to-date information on fees, reservations and seasonal availability, check with the park or the reservation system before you go.
