Sand Lake Campground sits on the shore of a roughly 50-acre lake whose shallow, sandy edge has made the beach a favorite for families and swimmers. The campground's 44 sites are set in a mixed hardwood stand, with some sites heavily shaded and others opening into sunlit lawn and lakeshore 40 sites are designated for both RVs and tents, one is RV-only and three are tent-only. A short drive south of Wellston on Seaman Road brings you through the small village of Dublin and then a half-mile turn onto Sand Lake Road for the final approach, so it's far enough from town to feel remote but close enough for quick access to gas and groceries. Summer temperatures here generally hover around the low 80s, and the larger Huron-Manistee National Forests around you offer nearly a million acres of public land, including extensive wetlands and trails to explore. The lake itself supports a mix of water activity right from the campground: power boating, sailing, canoeing and basic water sports are common, and anglers fish for bluegill, perch and smallmouth bass from shore or boat. On-site conveniences include a boat ramp and picnic area, plus campground facilities such as coin showers, flush toilets and drinking water faucets visitors frequently note the private bathrooms with vanities. The campground makes a handy base for nearby hiking and for a 15-minute trip to the Pine National Scenic River, and the broader Huron-Manistee area adds opportunities for auto touring, biking, horseback riding, OHV use, interpretive programs and wildlife viewing. Practical details such as current fees, reservation policies, RV hookup availability and seasonal openings are provided by the Forest Service, so check their website or contact the Huron-Manistee office before you go.
