“Perfect setting, large site lots of space between sites. ”
“Beautiful sites, close to ferry and Soo Locks. Easy drive to whitefish point. No water at campsite, but water and dump station at casino, about 7 miles south on same road. Drive through the RV parking toward stadium seating.”

Carp River Campground sits beside the Carp Wild and Scenic River in Michigan's Hiawatha National Forest, roughly eight miles north of St. Ignace on Mackinac Trail and reachable from I-75 (Exit 352). The site is small and intentionally simple: 20 wooded, shaded campsites that accommodate both tents and RVs, each equipped with a picnic table and metal fire ring. You'll find drinking water and vault toilets spaced through the loop, but no other hookups or elaborate facilities are listed, so plan on a self-sufficient visit. Check-in time is any time after 2 p.m.; note that early arrivals are charged for the previous night. If you've made a reservation, cancel at least seven days in advance if plans change, and understand that reserved sites cannot be traded for walk-up sites. The river is the campground's defining feature and a real draw for anglers brook, brown and rainbow trout are regularly found in the Carp River and there are nearby put-ins and quiet stretches suitable for canoeing or kayaking. Short walks from camp lead into typical Upper Peninsula forest: northern hardwoods, jack pine and wetland pockets where songbirds, waterfowl and other wildlife are commonly seen. Beyond the campground, Hiawatha National Forest extends this mix of shoreline and forest recreation across several districts and attractions: Grand Island National Recreation Area, the Whitefish Scenic Byway, six historic lighthouses, multiple wilderness areas and the Clear Lake Education Center. Whether you're after fishing and paddling close to camp or longer day trips to lakeshores, islands and interpretive sites around the Straits region, Carp River offers a compact, riverside base for exploring the Great Lakes National Forest landscape.
