Brevoort Lake Campground occupies a long stretch along the western shore of Brevoort Lake, sitting on a low peninsula that reaches into the water and into Boedne Bay. Campsites are shaded by large pines, hemlocks and oaks with pockets of low, shrubby vegetation and bands of beach grass where sand meets the water, and a broad, sandy lakeshore gives easy access for swimming and shoreline strolls. The lake itself is 4,233 acres and is a strong draw for anglers after the Forest Service built a walleye spawning reef in 1985 anglers can reliably expect walleye along with pike, bass, perch and other fish while boat access is located at the center of the campground on Boedne Bay for launching kayaks, small powerboats and for water-sport activities. Hikers will find longer routes nearby: the Ridge, Sand Dunes Cross Country and the North Country National Scenic Trails pass close enough for day hikes, and a short trip into St. Ignace (about 20 miles east) opens up services, ferry connections and the 3.8-acre Mackinac Island for biking, horseback riding and historical sites. The campground supports a mix of reservation and first-come use with 72 total campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents; the sites are grouped into several sections including 38 management sites and three additional loops labeled as Sites 1 12 and 71 (6 sites), Sites 13 49 (16 sites) and Sites 50 70 (12 sites). Each site comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill, and the campground provides accessible flush toilets, drinking water and a dump station. Dozens of the single-family sites can be reserved in advance, but additional sites are available on a walk-up basis; reservation holders should note check-in is any time after 2 p.m. (early arrivals will be charged for the previous night) and cancellations must be made at least seven days before arrival reservation sites cannot be traded for walk-up sites. For planning and facility-specific questions call (906) 643-7900; the campground's mailing/address point is N4149 Brevort Camp Road, Moran, MI 49760, reached by heading roughly 20 miles west of St. Ignace on Highway 2 and turning north onto Brevort Camp Road toward the Forest Service entrance.
