“Wonderful stay! Easy to get around, beautiful secluded campground area with easy access to hiking trails. The groundskeeper Eric was very welcoming and helpful. We will definitely stay here again in the future! ”
“Beautiful site that is well maintained. One of my favorite tent camping spots in Maryland! There is now mowed grass; only sites nestled amongst lovely wooded hills. ”

Owens Creek Campground sits in the rolling hills of Catoctin Mountain Park, about five miles west of Thurmont, Maryland, where a shallow, fast-moving stream runs past campsites and sets the rhythm for the place. The campground leans toward a primitive camping experience visitors are here for nature hikes, campfire circles and quiet evenings beside the brook but it is well served by the park trail network: the Deerfield Nature Trail begins at the campground and makes a 1.5-mile loop with links into the park's western trails, and the Browns Farm Trail in the nearby Owens Creek Picnic Area offers an archaeology-themed youth "Track Trail." Catoctin as a whole provides roughly 25 miles of hiking opportunities and supports a range of outdoor pursuits beyond overnighting climbing, fishing, horseback riding and picnicking among them so you can pair a simple tent night with longer day hikes or visits to nearby natural and historic sites. Practical details are straightforward: the campground contains 49 sites that accept both RVs and tents, with a maximum of five people (or an immediate family) per site; sites are equipped with a tent pad, picnic table and fire ring, and all tents must fit on the provided pads. There are no utility hookups; trailers are limited to 22' and RVs to 30', and three pull-through sites (numbers 12, 39 and 43) simplify arrivals for larger units. Flush toilets, showers and drinking water are available in a central facility, and firewood is sold on site (donations appreciated). For reservations note the late-cancellation rule: cancellations the day before or the day of arrival incur a $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid); one-night reservation cancellations forfeit the entire amount paid but are not charged the additional service fee. For GPS use the campground street address is 15882 Foxville Deerfield Road, Sabillasville, MD; the park's mailing address is Catoctin Mountain Park, 6602 Foxville Road, Thurmont, MD 21788. If you want side trips, Antietam, Gettysburg, the C&O Canal, Eisenhower National Historic Site and the Appalachian Trail are all within a roughly 8 37 mile radius, and nearby Cunningham Falls State Park and the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve & Zoo provide low-effort alternatives to a full backcountry day.
