About

Smith Ridge Campground sits on the Highland Rim above Green River Lake where stands of mixed hardwoods give way to open meadows and easy shore access; it's a short drive east of Campbellsville off KY-70 down County Park Road. The campground contains 79 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, divided between Loop A (30 sites) and Loop B (49 sites), and 62 of those sites offer water and electric hookups. Around the loops you'll find flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water and fire rings at most sites, plus a small playground and an internal hiking trail for quick outings without leaving the campground. Within about a mile of the loops are extra conveniences a boat ramp, fishing pier, picnic areas, a swimming beach, a 9-hole frisbee golf course, additional restrooms and marina facilities (including privately owned marina condos) and the Corps of Engineers Visitor Center and historic Atkinson-Griffin Log Cabin sit roughly 13.5 miles away near the dam. Recreation at Green River Lake spreads from the shoreline to miles of trails and fields: the reservoir provides roughly 8,000 surface acres for boating, with ten boat ramps and three full-service marinas around the shoreline supporting wake sports, jet skiing and pontoons, while anglers target walleye, crappie, white bass, channel catfish, muskie and bluegill. The surrounding public lands support hunting for deer, turkey, rabbit, quail, squirrel, dove and waterfowl, and the area's trails offer shoreline and ridge views that are popular for hiking and wildlife viewing. Practical notes: the site is seasonally staffed (typically mid-May through early September) call (270) 789-2743 when staff are on duty, or (270) 465-4463 for general information outside that period and reservation changes that move your stay outside the original reservation window incur a $10 change fee; no-shows are charged $20 plus the first night's use fee. Nearby cultural destinations, including the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln and Mammoth Cave National Park, are within roughly an hour's drive for day trips.
