“Amazing weekend. Great roads to ride our bikes on. Beautiful fall scenery. Loved having electric hookups!! Wonderful campground with beautiful and private spots. Lots to do around there. It was our first time and we’re already planning for next year!”
“Made a reservation 3 weeks in advance and a site wasn't reserved for me, gratefully a spot was open. Noisy place logging trucks all night”

Elk Creek Campground sits at about 3,000 feet in a mature pine stand along Elk Creek, a compact mountain site that puts water and forest scenery within easy reach. The creek and nearby Elk River Reservoir are the focus for anglers cutthroat and rainbow trout, plus migratory chinook salmon and steelhead, are all part of the local fishery and a short 3.5-mile hike on the Elk Creek Falls Trail leads to what is recorded as Idaho's tallest waterfall. The campground is also within a landscape of old-growth cedar and mixed conifer where elk, deer, moose, black bear and occasional cougar are part of the experience; the largest cedar east of the Cascade Range is in the area. The small timber town of Elk River is under a mile away and supplies gas, groceries, showers and basic fishing gear, and the campground's location about 45 minutes northeast of Moscow makes it an accessible mountain base reached via State Highway 8 and the forest roads that climb into the Clearwater country. Facilities are compact and straightforward: there are six developed sites that accommodate both tents and RVs, each with electrical hookups, a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; driving and parking surfaces are gravel throughout. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided, and a more rustic overflow section can be used when extra sites are needed. Historically sites have been offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and at Elk Creek the six developed, electric sites are also available for advance reservation check the Forest Service for current rules, seasonal openings, fees and any road conditions that may affect access. Beyond the campground you'll find opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding on nearby trails and forest roads, plus fishing, boating and other water activities at Elk River Reservoir; the surrounding Nez Perce Clearwater National Forests also support auto touring, OHV use, hunting, wildlife viewing, picnicking and overnight stays in fire lookouts or cabins.
