Whitebreast Camp sits on the wooded shore of Lake Red Rock and serves as a practical base for water-focused recreation and wildlife watching. The campground contains 107 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, with three primary loops named Coal (28 sites), Heig (2 sites) and Mead (56 sites) that make up much of the site layout. Amenities you'll find on-site include 30- and 50-amp electric hookups, flush and pit toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump station and a boat ramp; two picnic shelters (the open Whitebreast Point shelter and the small enclosed Miner's Retreat) and nearby playgrounds and Whitebreast Beach support family day use and shorter stays. There are also two group sites available for larger gatherings. The campground is part of the Army Corps of Engineers' Lake Red Rock project and is located just off Highway S-71 at 971 Highway S71, roughly 10 minutes from Pella and about 15 minutes from Knoxville. The lake itself offers strong boating and fishing opportunities anglers commonly target crappie, walleye, largemouth and striped bass, channel and flathead catfish, northern pike and bluegill and miles of marked water trails make paddling practical along the shoreline. A paved hiking and biking route (the Volksweg Trail) connects the area with Pella and nearby recreation sites, and there are several miles of other trails for hiking and biking; environmental-education programs and shoreline wildlife viewing are regular draws. Spring and fall migrations bring American white pelicans through the area, and large numbers of bald eagles are often visible from November through March; white-tailed deer, wild turkey and other small mammals are commonly seen in the hardwoods that shade the campsites. Reservations are handled through recreation.gov (or by phone at 1-877-444-6777); note a $10 service fee is deducted from refunds for changes or cancellations, and late cancellations may incur additional charges.
