Kelly Dahl Campground sits along the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway just south of Nederland, placing you within easy reach of historic mining towns such as Rollinsville, Central City and Black Hawk. The campground rests at about 8,600 feet on a gentle ponderosa-pine slope; recent mountain pine beetle-related tree work has opened the canopy, so expect limited shade. There are no formal hiking trails through the campground itself, but a handful of closed service roads invite short explorations, and established trailheads West Magnolia and East Portal are a short drive away. Off-road routes including Rollins Pass (Moffat Road) are nearby for vehicle-based exploration. Note that the small lakes visible across the highway are on private land and are not open to public access. The wider Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests (and Pawnee NG) offer a broad range of activities auto touring, biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, OHV riding, winter sports, wildlife viewing and more so the campground is a convenient base for a variety of day trips. The campground contains 25 sites, all configured to accommodate both tents and RVs; sites are equipped with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill, and each site has a maximum occupancy of eight people. Campsites #1 through #20 are designated on a first-come, first-served basis. Basic services include vault toilets, potable water, and trash collection, and firewood is available for purchase inside the campground. A small playground suitable for young children sits near the loop, and the access road through the campground is gravel/dirt manageable for trailers but worth noting if your rig is low-clearance.
