“Beautiful campground! The Crystal River next the campground adds to the beauty. Interior roads are poor in spots and may be difficult to navigate wither larger trailers”

Bogan Flats Campground lies on a stretch of the Crystal River in a valley of aspen groves, Ponderosa pine, spruce and willow, and it suits larger parties as well as individual families. Sites are widely spaced with a mix of sunny clearings and shaded spots, and several sites sit right at the river's edge; in total there are 36 campsites 33 that accommodate both tents and RVs and 3 that are RV-only. The designated group site is set apart from the main loop for a more private experience. The campground accepts tents, trailers and RVs, and provides basic but reliable amenities: picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets and drinking water (electrical hookups are not available). Firewood can be purchased on-site for a fee. Access is rural but straightforward: the campground is south of Carbondale in the Marble/Redstone corridor reach it from I-70 via Glenwood Springs (Hwy 82) through Carbondale and then 20 miles south on Highway 133, turning onto Gunnison County Road 3 toward Marble for the final 1.5 miles along the river. Note that once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation. The river itself is a primary draw: the Crystal River is well known for fly fishing, with rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout common in these waters. If you're looking for a strenuous day hike, Mt. Sopris dominates the skyline its summit reaches 12,953 feet and the standard route is roughly 14.8 miles round trip with about 4,600 feet of elevation gain, moving from aspen groves through mixed conifer and alpine talus where summer wildflowers are abundant. The broader White River National Forest around Bogan Flats supports a wide variety of outdoor pursuits auto touring, biking, boating, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, off-highway vehicle routes, winter sports, wildlife viewing and more while local attractions include the nearby timber-and-stone village of Redstone with galleries, restaurants and John Osgood's turn-of-the-century castle. Wildlife viewing is excellent from campground edges and trails; bighorn sheep use the rocky ridges, bull elk are often heard at dusk, and alpine areas provide habitat for species such as pika and ptarmigan, all sustained by the forest's streams and undeveloped backcountry.
