Cobbett Lake Campground sits on the shore of Cobbett Lake on Colorado's Grand Mesa in the Land O' Lakes area, where more than 300 small lakes dot the high plateau. The campground has 20 campsites all 20 are suitable for both RVs and tents and each site comes with a picnic table and a metal campfire ring. Sites are shaded by a dense stand of spruce, and vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are available within the loop. The lake itself is limited to non-motorized watercraft, making it a quiet spot for canoeing and angling; anglers commonly cast for rainbow, brook and cutthroat trout. Several trailheads are within easy reach, including the Cobbett Lake Trail and the Grand Mesa Discovery Trail, and a network of off-road vehicle trails threads the surrounding landscape for riders who bring appropriate machines. Practical access is straightforward: from Cedaredge head north on Highway 65 for about 15 miles and, just past the Grand Mesa Visitor Center at Island Lake, watch for the campground sign and the turnoff to the right. The visitor center is within walking distance and offers interpretive exhibits, a bookstore and a high-altitude wildflower garden with more than 50 native species useful for planning hikes or learning about local flora. At 10,300 feet elevation, weather and road conditions can change quickly, so check current opening dates, fees and reservation policies with the Grand Mesa Visitor Center or the Forest Service before you go. Beyond the campground, the 63-mile Grand Mesa National Scenic and Historic Byway climbs to roughly 11,000 feet and provides auto touring, biking, boating, hiking, wildlife viewing and winter sport opportunities across the plateau; the town of Cedaredge, about 15 miles away, offers Pioneer Town museums and an annual Applefest in October.
